Jaime Winstone’s Strictly Come Dancing journey just hit a painful pause. The BBC One show confirmed she will not dance this weekend after doctors told her to rest a torn abdominal muscle, The Sun reports.

In a statement shared on social media, Strictly said: “Due to injury, Jaime Winstone has been advised by doctors to rest and, as a result, she will not dance in this weekend’s Strictly Come Dancing.”

Jaime, 41, put her own feelings in blunt terms. “I am absolutely devastated not to be dancing this weekend due to a torn abdominal muscle,” she said. “I am in considerable pain, and my doctors have advised complete rest to give my body the best possible chance to heal. As frustrating as it is, I have to put my health first and follow their advice to step away from dancing this week.”

She thanked fans and her pro partner Carlos Gu, adding that she is “praying for a speedy recovery” so she can get back on the floor soon.

According to The Sun, the injury happened during Saturday morning rehearsals ahead of the Halloween live show. Jaime still went ahead with a salsa as the Bride of Frankenstein that night, even after seeing an on-set physio. A source said she hurt herself doing lifts while practicing a “very spritely” salsa and “soldiered on though the pain.” She ended up in the bottom three dance-off but was saved by the judges, while Emmerdale’s Lawrence Robb was sent home.

BBC rules give each contestant one free pass before they must withdraw, so Jaime gets an automatic bye through to next week. Singer Delta Goodrem previously used the same safety net after fracturing a rib in training with Kai Widdrington and later returned to the competition.

Jaime has said Taylor Swift helped tip her into saying yes to Strictly after years of turning it down. At a birthday party for Poppy Delevingne, she recalled Swift approaching her while she danced and asking how she moved so freely — one of several “signs” that this should be her year.

For now the focus is recovery. One missed Saturday is tough for any Strictly contestant, but Jaime’s message is clear: heal first, dance later.
