Maya Jama’s daring turn on Celebrity Traitors may have done more for her acting career than she expected. The Love Island host is now being talked up as a contender for a Bond Girl role in the next 007 film.

During the final mission of the BBC series, Maya, 32, rode on the outside of a helicopter, and bookmakers have taken notice. William Hill has cut her odds to 7/1, putting her fifth in the betting and ahead of Zendaya at 9/1 and Daisy Edgar-Jones at 10/1. Margaret Qualley leads at 2/1, followed by Sydney Sweeney, Anya Taylor-Joy and Florence Pugh.

A William Hill spokesperson said Maya has been linked with the franchise since her role as Aisha in the second season of Netflix’s The Gentlemen, and the helicopter scene only strengthened the buzz.

Maya herself admitted she was half-pitching for the part. After the challenge she said she was “low-key trying to appeal for a Bond role”, joking that if the right person saw she could hang out of helicopters, an acting job might follow. She described herself as a thrillseeker who has skydived, and added that keeping a straight face as a Traitor for most of the series showed off her poker face.

The Bond casting race is heating up. Reports say Callum Turner, Josh O’Connor and Jack Lowden are among the final actors being screen-tested to play the new 007, with fans busy hunting for clues about who will land the role in Bond 26.

Nothing is confirmed yet, but Maya has made her ambitions clear.
