Kim Kardashian’s health storyline on The Kardashians has taken another emotional turn, with the reality star learning she also has a hiatal hernia ahead of surgery on her esophagus.
A preview for next week’s episode, released on Thursday, 5 November 2026, shows Kim at a doctor’s appointment when the new diagnosis comes up. Her first reaction is a telling one: “My dad had that.” A hiatal hernia happens when the top part of the stomach pushes up through the diaphragm, the muscle wall between the abdomen and the chest.
The moment lands heavily because of family history. Kim’s father, the attorney Robert Kardashian Sr., died of esophageal cancer in 2003, only about eight weeks after he was diagnosed.
In the latest episode, Kris Jenner, 71, went with her daughter to a follow-up visit to see whether medication had cleared up Kim’s esophagitis, an inflammation of the esophagus. Doctors were also checking for a possible pre-cancerous condition. Kim explained that the outcome would decide whether she needed part of her esophagus removed or could simply stay on medication. “Obviously, I don’t want surgery, but I’ll do whatever’s necessary,” she said.
Kris admitted she has been frightened, even if she has tried not to show it to Kim. She called the situation “very worrisome” and said the family was praying for the best.
Kim later revealed that she had in fact gone ahead with surgery to cut out irregularities found in her esophagus. She first spoke about the esophagitis in September in the trailer for Season 8, when someone off camera asked whether it was what her father had died of, and she quietly replied, “Yeah.” She has said she kept her symptoms from most people because the subject hits so close to home.
The SKIMS founder, 46, is juggling all of this alongside a packed schedule, including the second season of her Hulu legal drama All’s Fair. Fans will see more of her health journey when the next episode airs.
