Justin Timberlake is reportedly ready to revisit some of the most talked-about moments of his career on camera. According to sources cited by Variety, the former NSYNC star has a four-part docuseries heading to Apple TV in December, billed as a “tell-all.”
What the series will cover
Sources say Janet Jackson will take part and discuss the infamous “wardrobe malfunction” from the 2004 Super Bowl halftime show. Timberlake is also expected to respond to recent comments made about him by his ex-girlfriend Britney Spears. Representatives for Apple, Timberlake, Jackson and Spears had not commented at the time of the report.
The 2004 halftime show
During the duo’s performance of “Rock Your Body,” Timberlake, now 45, pulled away part of Jackson’s costume, briefly exposing her breast on live TV. Jackson, now 60, apologised the next day, explaining that a planned “costume reveal” had been decided after final rehearsals and went further than intended.
The fallout was far heavier for Jackson. The FCC opened an investigation after receiving more than half a million complaints, she was pushed to step back from presenting at the 2004 Grammys, and her music was reportedly sidelined by MTV and CBS.
In 2021, Timberlake publicly apologised to both Jackson and Spears, saying he had benefited from a system that condones misogyny and racism. A year later, in her Lifetime documentary Janet Jackson, the singer said the incident had been blown out of proportion and that she and Timberlake had forgiven each other and remain good friends.
The Britney Spears chapter
Timberlake and Spears dated for about three years around the turn of the millennium. In her 2023 memoir The Woman in Me, Spears wrote that he ended the relationship by text and shared other painful details about their time together. The new docuseries is expected to be the first time Timberlake addresses those claims at length.
With a December release reportedly planned, fans won’t have long to wait to hear his side of the story.
